Coast to Coast WordCamps: Providence & Vancouver
This weekend, 10up is sponsoring WordCamps on both North American coasts, as WordCamp Providence and WordCamp Vancouver host their annual conference. 10uppers are also busy preparing to play their part at both camps.
As an organizer for WordCamp Providence – an outgrowth of my organizer role at our local meet up – I have the honor of delivering opening remarks for Friday’s sessions and closing remarks for the entire camp on Saturday. Providence is close to our team’s heart. Our President started the meet up here back in 2010, and lived here for over 10 years. John Jacoby, our new Director of Web Engineering, lived in the city for two years, from late 2010 to early 2013, and helped organize last year’s WordCamp. Jess Jurick, Director of Web Strategy, started her career at 10up while living here. We couldn’t help but step up with a top-level, Anchor Sponsorship. The camp has a great line up, including a number of 10uppers.
Senior Strategic Engineer Taylor Lovett will apply key Computer Science theories to WordPress in his talk What You Missed in Computer Science. John James Jacoby will offer power tips for improving WordPress development processes with Wonderful WordPress Workflow. Jake Goldman will offer insight into WordPress’s native publishing workflow and power tools to take it up a notch with Publishing Workflows for WordPress. For those worried about those big image files, Senior Web Engineer Dave Ross will offer solutions with Optimize Image Files Like a Pro. You’ll also be able to catch a few other 10uppers, like Kelly, in the halls.
Meanwhile, across the continent, Web Engineer Drew Jaynes will be speaking at a WordCamp for the first time at WordCamp Vancouver. Drew will present Customizer-ing Theme Options: A Visual Playground, a tutorial for turning mundane theme option pages into graceful, live-preview features.
Drew will be joined by Senior Strategic Engineer Grant Landram and Web Engineer Tanner Moushey. Grant will take part in a panel focused on the business of WordPress development services. Tanner is presenting Workflows with Git, covering everything from getting started with Git to optimizing your Git workflow. You might even catch native Canadian 10upper Grant Mangham attending a session or two.
Hope to see a few of you at a WordCamp this weekend!
